Things Bequeathed

THINGS BEQUEATHED

Fourteen year-old runaway Andi Neil is on a quest to redeem her dead father. Shunned, orphaned and alone she has but one companion. She calls him Damon. He’s nine inches tall, red as a firetruck, has black fangs and lidless eyes, horns, wings and a barbed tail.

He looks like he came straight from below, but better the devil you know than the father you don’t. Pursued across the American West by a mysterious woman who would destroy Andi to get to Damon, Andi must rely on her wits, courage, and a little arcane help from the silent imp who just appeared one night in her room.

Is the mysterious Damon helping her or using her? Who is he? What is he? Where did he come from? Could he be any cuter? Is he as dangerous as he seems? These questions could equally apply to Andi.

Unfamiliar family, inherited sins, and unlikely gifts await Andi on her epic journey to the truth of her existence and the meaning behind the monster.

THE UNSEEN - ELEANOR | CELESTE | DAVID

The Unseen

Eleanor is a modest girl, unremarkable but extraordinary, young but old, malleable but fixed. She is scared and confused. She is a liar and a thief. Eleanor is not what she appears to be.

The Unseen Saga is currently at three volumes. The first book is a standalone.

Book 1 - Eleanor

Book 2 - Celeste

Book 3 - David

The Unseen is a YA Paranormal series about a young girl growing up in a small Wyoming town. She is called Eleanor. She lives in Jamesford, but she isn't from there. She's a transplant. And she's not so very young.

Part of the story was inspired by a southwest Navajo legend I first encountered reading Tony Hillerman. I saw in that legend a metaphor for life and of growing up. It gave me an opportunity to explore the complexities of identity and change in the development of a true outsider.

The Unseen is a paramoral coming-of-age story. It is a romance. A fable. It is a tale of love and survival, debt, remembering, forgiveness and danger.

Eleanor

ELEANOR, THE UNSEEN BOOK 1

It was a gamble for Eleanor to rejoin humanity but she was driven to it. She’d been too successful forgetting. The last vestiges of her original family hung by a thread in her transformed brain and drove her to be reckless.

Ten years later Eleanor hides in plain sight. An average girl getting average grades in a small Wyoming town; poor but happy, lonely but loved. Her mother, Tabitha, is there for her and that’s all she’s ever needed. But now her mother is sick and David has returned. The only friend she’d ever had, the only other person who knows her secret, is back. And Eleanor again becomes reckless.

Eleanor is a modest girl, unremarkable but extraordinary, young but old, malleable but fixed. She is scared and confused. She is a liar and a thief. Eleanor is not what she appears to be.

Eleanor

CELESTE, THE UNSEEN BOOK 2

Eleanor's story continues as she tries to maintain a life in Jamesford while distant events and local suspicions conspire to threaten everything.

The sleepy little town of Jamesford becomes a national battleground of faith and science, hatred and hope, and Eleanor—the girl whose life depends on not being noticed—is at the center of it all.

Trusting David with the secret of what she is, Eleanor tries to keep the promise she made her mother to rejoin humanity, even if Eleanor might not be human.

She dreams of a future beyond mere survival, beyond fear and loneliness. A future where she matters.

But Jamesford is plagued with strangers, a predator is on the loose, and the whispered rumors surrounding the girl from Cedar Street are never quite forgotten.

Eleanor

DAVID, THE UNSEEN BOOK 2

"You and no other."

Flames and blood – the story of Eleanor's existence.

How can she recover? How can she go on? How can she stay away?

Eleanor survives, it's what she does. But at what cost? She learns her past and sees the terrible and tragic history of her kind, the wreckage of fear and necessity spread across generations of innocent lives. It is enough to show her she is toxic, a cause of pain and destruction. For everyone’s own good, she will disappear forever.

But first, one last visit to Jamesford.

The sleepy Wyoming town mourns their lost child. The unremarkable girl who in life wanted only to be ignored is a celebrity in death, a tourist attraction, a legend. A mystery.

But not everyone thinks she’s dead. While some wait in hope for her return, others wait in ambush.
